Gateway to the temples of Angkor. Like Auberge
Mont Royal, Siem Reap is big in popularity, small in size. This small town
reveals the charms of Cambodia while serving as a base to explore the awe-inspiring
temples of the ancient Khmer kingdom. Rediscovered by the French explorer
Henri Mouhout, these temples, once lost to the jungle, have become one of
the world's greatest attractions.
Enshrouded in mystery -- temple walls merged with tree roots, jungle traversing
courtyards and corridors. The ruins of Angkor are a monument to an ancient
empire; visiting them and sensing the awe for yourself is a once-in-a-lifetime
experience that brings with it a lifetime of memories.
At Angkor Wat, the centrepiece of the empire, travellers enter through a
long causeway and then crossing the threshold to the temple, encounter a
series of breathtaking details. From the beauty of the bas-reliefs carved
into temple walls, to the view from the top, Angkor Wat is the massive jewel
in Angkor's crown.
The Bayon is another temple not-to-be-missed. By sunset or sunrise, the
aura of the Bayon is magical, with over 200 carved images of serene, smiling
faces gazing around you.
